Make Your Own Printable Japanese Flashcards
Paper flashcards still work: you can shuffle them on a train, spread them across a desk, or hand them to a study partner. This maker lets you choose exactly which Japanese words go on them — from a library of more than 6,000 — and prints them as double-sided cards with the word on one side and its meaning on the other.
How it works
Search the list by kana, kanji, romaji or meaning and tap each word you want, or add a whole deck at once. Choose Letter or A4 paper and six, eight or twelve cards per sheet, then press Print fronts. Put the printed sheets back in the tray and press Print backs: the back of every sheet is mirrored, so printing on the reverse with the same edge at the top puts each meaning directly behind its word. A small number in the corner of each card matches front to back if anything slips.
Getting the most out of paper cards
Keep sets small — twenty to forty words is plenty for one pile. Say each word aloud before you turn the card, and sort the pile into "knew it" and "not yet"; only the second pile goes round again. Once the Japanese side feels easy, print the same words with the meaning on the front and practise recalling the Japanese instead. Writing each missed word out by hand helps it stick.

Is the printable flashcard maker free?
Yes. There is no account and no limit — print as many cards as you like, for yourself or a whole class.
Can I print on A4 paper?
Yes. Choose A4 under Paper and the layout is rebuilt for A4. Keep the printer at 100% (actual size) so the backs line up with the fronts.
My backs don't line up with the fronts. What went wrong?
Check that the printed sheets went back into the tray with the same edge at the top, printing on the blank side, and that scaling is set to 100%. Every card also carries a small number on both sides, so you can still match them after cutting.
Will my word list be saved?
Your chosen words and settings are kept in this browser, so you can come back and print them again. Nothing is uploaded.
