Kana Solitaire is a free card game that uses Japanese Hiragana and Katakana characters instead of traditional playing cards. Each card displays a kana character with its romaji pronunciation, helping you learn and reinforce Japanese writing through gameplay.
The rules follow classic Klondike solitaire — stack cards in alternating colors (black and red) in descending order on the tableau, and build up foundation piles by suit (hiragana and katakana). Drag or tap cards to move them. Draw from the stock pile when you need new cards.
Every card you move reinforces your recognition of Japanese characters. Toggle romaji hints on or off in the Options menu to challenge yourself. Over time, you'll naturally memorize all 46 basic characters in both Hiragana and Katakana.
Try our character decks for focused character review, printable practice sheets for handwriting, or the main study tool for stroke order animations and tracing.
