Write hiragana and katakana from memory with the Kana Trainer
The Kana Trainer is a writing drill with spaced repetition built in. You hear a sound, write the kana free-hand, and the site judges the shape, stroke order and direction on the spot. Characters you struggle with come back within the same lap; characters you write cleanly drift out and return days later.
How a session works
Press Start and write for as long as you like; press End whenever you are done. The stream begins with reviews that are due, then characters you are weak on, then new characters in the standard a-i-u-e-o order. A character returns after a gap of other characters: the gap doubles after each clean write and drops to two after a miss, a hint or a played animation. After a miss the character comes back with a faint model to write over. Every write is saved as it happens, and ending shows a summary of what graduated, what is getting there and what still needs work.
What counts as struggling
A write counts as clean when the character is recognised as the right one with a good shape score, without a hint or a played animation. A miss, a low score, a hint or an animation all mark the character as struggling, which shortens its return gap and holds back new characters until the struggling ones are under control.
Spaced repetition across sessions
Every write is recorded to the same writing gauge that Recall and the Workbook use, so progress made anywhere on the site shows up here and vice versa. Reading is a separate skill and a separate gauge: it is earned in the Recall games, never here. The hub shows how many characters are learned, due for review, weak or still to meet, and the syllabary map colours each character by its state.

Do I rate my own writing?
No. The free-hand judge scores every character for shape, stroke order and direction. Hints and played animations reduce the score, and a miss resets the character to a short return gap.

No. It records only the writing gauge. Reading is earned in the Recall games, and both gauges are shown in the Report Card.
Are hiragana and katakana mixed?
No. Each script has its own trainer; switch between them on the hub.
