Conquer Japan — Prefecture Game
Work through Japan region by region: find each prefecture on the map, read its name in kana, then write it stroke by stroke. Conquered prefectures fill in on your map.
Conquer Japan
Find each prefecture on the map, read its kana name, then write it. Three steps conquer a prefecture; conquer every prefecture in a region to unlock the next one north.
Learn Japan's Prefectures and Hiragana Together
Conquer Japan is a geography-and-kana campaign. Japan's 47 prefectures are grouped into seven regions, from Kyūshū and Okinawa in the south to Tōhoku and Hokkaidō in the north. For each prefecture you first find it on the map, then pick its hiragana reading, then write that reading stroke by stroke. Clear all three steps and the prefecture fills in on your map; conquer a whole region to earn its stamp and unlock the next one.
How it works
Each run is eight quick rounds. The game always asks for the next step of the prefecture you know least, so finding comes before reading and reading before writing. Wrong answers show the right one instead of costing you progress. Your map, stamps and best score are saved in your browser, and every character you write feeds the same progress system used across the site.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to know all the kana first?
No. The find and read steps work from day one, romaji is shown throughout, and the writing step guides you stroke by stroke with a kana hint on demand.
Are the names in hiragana or katakana?
Prefecture readings are written in hiragana, so this game always uses hiragana regardless of which site you came from.
Is it free?
Yes — completely free, no account required, and it works on phones, tablets, and desktops.
