Interesting and Famous

Two adjectives hiding a clever overlap. 白 (shiro, white) shows up literally in 白い and then, with 面 (face/surface), inside 面白い (omoshiroi, interesting) — where it voices to じろ. Meanwhile 有 + 名 build 有名 (yūmei, famous), literally 'has a name'.

面白い is an irregular truncation (面 omo + 白 shiro→jiro): learn it whole. 白 is しろ.い (white) standalone, ハク in compounds. 有 (ユウ, to have) + 名 (メイ, name) = famous; 名 is also な in 名前 (namae, name).
