Magazines, Shoes, and Class

A grab-bag of everyday nouns from the noun-particle lesson. 物 (mono, thing) builds 飲み物 (drinks) and 食べ物 (food); 雑 + 誌 = 雑誌 (zasshi, magazine); 葉 hides in 葉書 (hagaki, postcard); 靴 (kutsu) is shoes; and 授 + 業 = 授業 (jugyō, a class/lesson).

物 is もの (thing) but ブツ/モツ in 動物/荷物. 雑 (ザツ) + 誌 (シ) = magazine; note the small-tsu in 雑誌 (zasshi). 葉 is は (leaf) — also 言葉 (kotoba, word). 授 (ジュ, to grant/teach) + 業 (ギョウ, work/study) = class.
